Religion News Foundation (RNF) is an independent educational and secular nonprofit organization founded in 1999.  It wholly owns the Religion News Service (RNS), which strives to inform, illuminate, and inspire public discourse on matters relating to belief and convictions in a neutral and informative way through religious literacy without endorsing or promoting any particular belief system or point of view.

The Foundation’s mission is to strengthen and improve the understanding of religion, improve public discourse about religion, advance religious literacy, and support religion journalism. In this, the Foundation works to provide comprehensive coverage of religion, religious freedom, and religious persecution across the globe.

RNF seeks to achieve its religious literacy goals through storytelling, films, videos, podcasts, training workshops, student and cultural exchanges, events, programs and initiatives.

Religion News Association (RNA) is an affiliate of RNF and is partially funded by RNF. Founded in 1949, RNA is the premier religion journalism association for those writing about religion in the news media. It offers training and tools to help journalists cover religion with balance, accuracy, and insight.
